Board-certified internist Gilbert Teixeira, MD, serves patients at AssociatesMD, a primary care practice in Plantation, Florida.
Born in Azores, Portugal, Dr. Teixeira came to the United States at age nine and was raised in Massachusetts.
He graduated from St. Anselm’s College in New Hampshire and received his Bachelor of Science and Education in 1985. His career began as an educator, teaching Biology and Chemistry to high school students in Providence, Rhode Island. During this time, he continued his own education, earning Master’s degrees in Mental Health and Educational Science from Rhode Island College.
Departing from his ten-year history as a teacher, Dr. Teixeira moved to Maine, pursuing his Doctorate in Medicine at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, which he achieved in 1999. Post-graduation, he completed his residency at Roger Williams Medical Center, Boston University Medical School.
His career as a physician then began at PrimaCare, Fall River, MA. In 2005, after two years at PrimaCare, Dr. Teixeira decided to establish his own private practice in East Providence, Rhode Island. He remained closely tied to his Portuguese roots, frequently offering medical forums that were based on topics of particular concern to his community. He is particularly interested in preventative medicine, cardiovascular and metabolic syndromes, and addiction medicine, having published papers on hypertension, diabetes, and upper respiratory diseases.
Dr. Teixeira is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Osteopathic Association.
After 20 years of practicing medicine in Rhode Island, Dr. Teixeira and his family made the jump to Fort Lauderdale. He is privileged to join AssociatesMD as a Primary Care physician and looks forward to working in the local community, helping patients achieve their healthcare goals.
