Dr. Gilbert Teixeira, born in Azores, Portugal, came to the United States at age nine and was raised in Massachusetts. He graduated from New Bedford HS in 1981 and continued to St. Anselm’s College in New Hampshire, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Science and Education in 1985. His career began as an educator, teaching Biology and Chemistry to high school students in Providence Rhode Island. In addition to his teaching role, he was an active participant and coordinator for several extracurricular programs, establishing Ski, Travel, and chess clubs, as well as the Head coach for the boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams. He continued his own education, earning Masters’s degrees in Mental Health and Educational Science from Rhode Island College.
Departing from his ten-year history as a teacher, Gil moved to Maine, pursuing his Doctorate in Medicine at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine which he achieved in 1999. Post-graduation, he completed his residency at Roger Williams Medical Center, Boston University Medical School. His career as a physician then began at PrimaCare, Fall River, MA. In 2005, after two years at PrimaCare, Doctor Teixeira decided to establish his own private practice in East Providence, RI. He remained closely tied to his Portuguese roots, frequently offering medical forums that were based on topics of particular concern to his community. Doctor Teixeira is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Osteopathic Association.
During this time he often traveled from RI to South Florida and fell in love with this area.
