Primary Care Q & A

I’m healthy. Why do I need primary care?

You need primary care because it’s your first point of contact for any medical assistance. Even if you’re healthy, you still need an annual physical exam. It’s also important to have a provider who can take care of any unexpected acute illnesses.

Your primary care provider is trained to diagnose and treat any medical condition that affects you. They also have a better understanding of your general health, making it easier for them to spot issues and get you the additional services you need to manage your health.

The goal of primary care is to provide a broad spectrum of preventive and curative care over a period of time.

What are some primary care services?

AssociatesMD is a multispecialty medical group and primary care practice, offering all of the services you need to manage your health. Primary care services include:

Annual Physical Exam

Your annual physical exam is the best tool you have for staying healthy. Your primary care provider at AssociatesMD evaluates your total health and screens for diseases before you have symptoms.

Vaccines are treatments that boost your immune system so it can fight off contagious diseases. AssociatesMD provides vaccines to keep you up-to-date and well-protected.

Lab tests provide objective information about your health. AssociatesMD offers various types of diagnostics, including ultrasounds, echocardiograms, and stress testing.

Urgent Care

Urgent care at AssociatesMD ensures you get immediate medical attention for unexpected illnesses and injuries. The practice has urgent care clinics in Pembroke Pines and Fort Lauderdale that are open for extended hours, at night, and on the weekends.

Preventive Care

Primary care is preventive care. After your exams, your provider spends time talking to you about your health, offering suggestions that boost wellness and prevent or delay disease.

Why are annual wellness visits important?

Your insurance will cover an annual wellness visit once every 12 months. An annual wellness visit is an important benefit that can help prevent disease and disability. This visit is not just an annual physical, but also a chance for you and your primary care provider to work together to create a personalized plan to keep you healthy and achieve your wellness goals.

What can I expect during an annual wellness visit?

As part of your visit, your primary care provider and medical team will ask you to answer a Health Risk Assessment. These questions can help your primary care doctor evaluate your current health and risk factors.

The visit will also include:

  • A review of your medical and family history
  • Height, weight, BMI, blood pressure, and other vital signs check
  • Developing or updating a list of current specialist providers and prescriptions
  • Personalized health advice
  • A schedule for preventative services (such as screenings or shots) as needed
  • Advance Care Planning (to maintain good health in the future)

What do I bring to my annual wellness visit?

To ensure a smooth and efficient appointment, we kindly ask that you gather the following items and bring them with you:

Your insurance card and photo ID

  • Any medications, vitamins, supplements, or injections you are currently taking
  • The name, address, and phone number of your pharmacy
